Item Condition Tiers in Probably Stolen — Full Table and Price Treatment

Updated · Game version 1.0

Direct answer

Condition is the first thing you read and the biggest single lever on price. It is judged visually, before any tool, and it applies as a multiplier rather than a flat deduction — which is why a worn item is not “worth less” in some vague sense, but worth a specific fraction of its tier above. The one distinction that matters more than the tier itself is cosmetic versus functional: cosmetic damage barely moves the number, functional damage moves it hard.

The tier table

TierWhat you seePrice treatmentMost common misread

Cosmetic versus functional: the only distinction that really matters

Every mispriced item in this game comes from the same root cause — treating a functional problem as a cosmetic one, or the reverse.

  • Cosmetic damage changes how the item looks. It moves the price a little, and it never makes an item unsellable.
  • Functional damage changes what the item does. It moves the price hard, and it can make an item unsellable at any price a buyer would accept.

So the question to ask of every item is not “how bad does it look” but “does it still do the thing”. Answer that first, and the tier mostly names itself.

Stacks are priced per unit

Why buying low-condition to resell rarely works

The table you are reading is the same table the buyer is reading. Buying Worn and selling it on does not create value, because the next person applies the same discount you did — you have only taken on the holding cost and the risk. Low-condition buying works when you are the one who can fix the condition, and stops working the moment you cannot. If repair or re-seal is available to you, price the item as Damaged plus the cost of the fix, and check that the result is still below the tier you are trying to reach.

Reading condition fast

The third step is the one people skip. Condition and authenticity are not independent — a “worn” item that is suspiciously unworn in the places wear should show is a relabel question, not a condition question.
